What's the Difference Between a Pram, Pushchair and Travel System?

Discovering you are pregnant is just the start. From that point to the birth is going to include endless planning and decisions - what design and colour should nursery be? Will it be a cot or a cot bed? And what will be best - a pram, pushchair or travel system?

Travel Stroller

This last choice is probably one of the most important decisions you will make as your baby will be spending a great of its first few years in the product you buy. So what is the choice, well it mainly comes down to three, pram, pushchair or travel system, but what is the difference between the three, well hopefully I am about to answer that.

Travel Stroller

The pram is generally bought by people for a new born baby as it provides a comfier sleeping environment and allows the baby to face the pusher. Some 2 in 1 systems allow the carry cot section to be removed from the chassis and used as a crib or Moses basket.

Pushchairs (also known as strollers and buggies) are generally for older children, in which the child sits more upright and faces forward. The child can still be laid back as the seat generally reclines to a number of settings. Even though the child can be laid flat the sleeping environment is in no way as comfy as the pram. However, the pushchair does have some benefits; it is more lightweight and easier to fold. It requires less storage space and is much easier to use around busy towns.

The final type is the travel system. This gives similar benefits that the pram does whilst providing an extra car seat which simply clicks onto the pushchair chassis. The advantages of this are that a sleeping baby can be transferred from the car to the pushchair without removing them from the seat. They do tend to be the most expensive option, but as mentioned you do get the extra car seat. However, after a few months you will need to buy a specialised car seat as the child becomes too big for the chair.

I hope that if you are looking to purchase a pram or pushchair in the near future that this information has helped make that decision a little easier
